The AD60/001-500R7 is a high-performance laser diode driver designed for direct modulation of packaged laser diodes with a differential resistance ranging from 5 Ω to 50 Ω. Manufactured by Analog Devices, Inc. (ADI), this device is categorized under Fiber Optic Data and Laser Drivers.

The AD60/001-500R7 features an active back-termination technique that provides excellent matching with the output transmission lines while reducing power dissipation in the output stage. This back-termination absorbs signal reflections from the TOSA end of the output transmission lines, ensuring high optical eye quality even when the TOSA end is poorly terminated.

The device is housed in a compact package that is ideal for use in low pin-count optical subassemblies, making it a suitable solution for compact modules. The modulation and bias currents are programmable via the MSET and BSET control pins, allowing for flexible implementation of various average power and extinction ratio control schemes, including closed-loop control and look-up tables.

The AD60/001-500R7 also includes an automatic laser shutdown (ALS) feature that enables users to turn on/off the bias and modulation currents by driving the ALS pin with the proper logic levels. This feature adds an extra layer of safety and control to the device.

Operating at speeds up to 10.7 Gbps, the AD60/001-500R7 consumes very low power, with a typical power consumption of 670 mW at IBIAS = 40 mA and IMOD = 40 mA. It offers typical 24 ps rise/fall times and is fully back-terminated for the output transmission lines.

The AD60/001-500R7 is compatible with XMD-MSA TOSAs and drives TOSAs with resistances ranging from 5 Ω to 50 Ω. It accepts PECL-/CML-compatible data inputs and offers a bias current range of 10 mA to 100 mA and a differential modulation current range of 10 mA to 80 mA.

The device is available in space-saving packages such as DIPSO, QFN, or LFCSP16, with varying dimensions and temperature ratings depending on the specific package type. The LFCSP16 package, for instance, is specified for operation from -40°C to +85°C and measures 3 mm × 3 mm in size, while other packages may have different specifications.

Overall, the AD60/001-500R7 is a versatile and high-performance laser diode driver that offers precise control, low power consumption, and excellent matching with output transmission lines, making it suitable for a wide range of fiber optic data communication applications.
